Handheld HDR Wide Angle Shooting just got easier for Nikon shooters using full frame bodies. Pre-PMA Nikon just announced the NIKKOR 16-35MM F/4G ED VR lens.
What this amounts to is for the ability to shoot with lower ISO levels when shooting hand held HDR Captures (AEB sequences/bursts). Finally a stabilized ultra wide angle lens useful for full frame shooters using the D3 D3s D700 (and D700s or D800 when/if released).

Too bad Nikon won’t allow you to AEB more than one stop. To get +/- 2 stops you need 5 exposures. Canon shooters can do the same with three exposures which is much more convenient when shooting handheld hdr.
I’m assuming you are shooting with a D200/D300/D700/D3 body because the other nikons are +/-2EV steps if you so choose. Just to be clear. Ironically the more expensive bodies give you that beefy 9AEB, but as you say… only 1EV steps.
All of this is just a firmware issue and I really wish all the manufacturers would just let the camera do what it could easily do with a firmware fix. Both Canon/Nikon use the extended AEB feature as a pro upgrade of sorts. You have to buy the expensive pro or semi-pro bodies to get extended AEB features.
Of course you could just get a Promote Control and get virtually unlimited bracketing, but then you have to attach that piece of kit via USB and it is yet another thing to carry around.
